Back Rooney and Rashford to net for England against Malta

With England stalwart Gareth Southgate making his managerial bow with the senior side against Malta, the current crop of Three Lions stars have their first chance to impress the new gaffer. And one Manchester United pairing look set to do so.

Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford are 5/4 to both find the net against the Falcons, while 6/5 says that it’s the Old Trafford teen and Leicester legend Jamie Vardy who get on the scoresheet.

However, it’s Tottenham’s Harry Kane who is 7/2 favourite, despite his absence this weekend through injury.

That means Rashford or Rooney – both 4s – could steal a march with goals, while 10/1 shot Adam Lallana has scored in three of his last five outings for club and country.

There certainly appears to be plenty of value in backing England’s frontmen to bag a hatful of goals on Saturday, with Malta conceding 14 times in their last four outings, while England netted 16 times in their home qualifiers en route to Euro 2016.

Two more men who could have a memorable night are potential debutants Michael Keane and Michail Antonio. The former is 10/3 to net in an England win, while 15/8 says the West Ham man heads home to cap his incredible rise from Non-League to the national team.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Southgate is set to kick-off his tenure with a bang, with England’s star strikers set for a goal glut against minnows Malta.”
