Leicester City are scouting non league football, so who’s impressing?

So well documented has Jamie Vardy’s rise to the top been, there’s soon going to be a film released about his life story. In just six years he’s gone from cold nights and floodlights in the depths of English football, to the biggest club competition of them all – the Champions League.

And his current side, Leicester City, have this week offered a trial to another non league talent, 20-year-old Ibrahim Meite of Harrow Borough, in an attempt to unearth the new Vardy. So we thought we’d take a look at which other names are impressing down the tiers.

Danny Rowe – AFC Fylde

One name which stood out to us immediately was AFC Fylde’s Danny Rowe, who’s netted a staggering 18 goals in just 12 league games.

Yep, you read that right.

That’s more than any other player has managed in the top six tiers. It’s also more than Stoke City, Sunderland and Stoke City combined!

At 27, it’s unlikely any top-flight sides will come calling, but Rowe now has found the net on 78 occasions in all competitions in the last three years.

There’s certainly a number of clubs in the lower leagues that could do with a striker with such an eye for goal.

Luke Benbow – Stourbridge

If you happen to watch Stourbridge at any point this season, chances are Luke Benbow will score.

He’s already got nine goals this season, including a penalty in the last round of the Emirates FA Cup against Ilkeston to send the Glassboys through to the fourth qualifying round.

Injuries have halted Benbow’s progress in recent years, but he still managed to score 23 goals last campaign for Rushall Olympic, while he netted 57 times over two years in his first spell with his current club.

Stourbridge travel to Marine this weekend, and can leapfrog their opponents with a victory.

Oliver Hawkins – Dagenham and Redbridge

Another player to impress us in the Ladbrokes News office of late is Oliver Hawkins.

Having briefly dabbled with EFL life last campaign, after signing for the Daggers from Hemel Hempstead back in January, the 24-year-old has been in fine form this year in the National League Premier, scoring 10 goals in 13 games.

And there’s every chance he’ll be making an immediate return to League Two next season, should Dagenham and Redbridge maintain their position in the top five.

Hawkins will be travelling with his teammates to Eastleigh this weekend, where they’ll be hoping to take all three points and close the gap between themselves and Forest Green Rovers at the top.
