Leicester one of three teams Arsenal outcast would walk into

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may have decided that warming Arsenal’s bench is no longer for him, after appearing on Sky’s Goals on Sunday and admitting he’d be prepared to leave the north Londoners if he can’t crack the first team.

The former Southampton youngster has made only three starts in all competitions this season and has completed the full 90 minutes just once, in a 4-0 EFL Cup thrashing of Nottingham Forest last month.

“There is that in my mind that I do want to get more game time. There comes a time in your career where you have to re-evaluate things and think, ‘Is that going to be here or elsewhere?’ the 24-cap England international said.

If it is to be elsewhere, then these three clubs could all enter the race as options for regular action:

Leicester

While the Foxes field the PFA Players’ Player of the Year in Riyad Mahrez on one flank, they could do with an upgrade on the other, where Marc Albrighton plays.

Albrighton was a serviceable workhorse on the left as Claudio Ranieri’s side took the league title last term, but can’t match Oxlade-Chamberlain for pace or goal threat having scored just four goals in 61 league games for the club.

Swansea

With Fernando Llorente leading their line, the Swans became a side that relied on crosses into the box to score goals under Francesco Guidolin.

Six winless outings using that formula prompted a change in manager and, in his first game in charge, Bob Bradley opted to field the more mobile Gylfi Sigurdsson and Leroy Fer up top against Arsenal.

If the American shifts the Welsh outfit back towards their more dynamic past, then adding Oxlade-Chamberlain’s direct running would be a strong fit.

West Brom

Tony Pulis has already rescued the career of one north London recluse, with Nacer Chadli scoring four times in five games since signing from Tottenham.

The Belgian tends to operate behind the striker at the Hawthorns, meaning there is room for Oxlade-Chamberlain to supersede current first-choice pair Matt Phillips and James McClean on either wing.
