Odds suggest Barcelona’s Neymar can smash Pogba transfer record

Published:

Paul Pogba’s record-breaking £89m move to Manchester United could soon look like small fry, with several clubs reportedly happy to pay the £170m fee needed to trigger Neymar’s release clause from Barcelona.

The 24-year-old has been in sensational form for Barca since the beginning of last season, chalking up an incredible 36 goals and 34 assists in just 56 games, with the former Santos man setting up four goals in the 7-0 defeat of Celtic last month.

Unsurprisingly, there’s a raft of interested clubs, meaning it’s just 4/1 he becomes the most expensive player ever by the end of the Summer 2017 transfer window.

With Barca powerless to turn down a £170m offer, it’s up to the 24-year-old to make the choice, and the interest shown by Man United and local rivals Manchester City mean it’s just 7/1 for any Premier League club to tempt him in the coming year, with each of the north-west giants 12/1 to snap up the Brazilian.

However, the bookies have snubbed talk of a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid, with 33/1 for the former Santos man to swap Barca for Los Blancos.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Pogba’s transfer record could soon look like small change, with a host of big-money clubs ready to pay Barca a gigantic sum for the brilliant Brazilian.”

Barca are next in action against Deportivo La Coruna at the Nou Camp, with 1/9 for the hosts to win and 80/1 for a repeat of the 8-0 thrashing dished out by Blaugrana in the last meeting.
