Poll Reaction: Arsenal’s Class of 2016 the best since Invincibles

Published:

Arsene Wenger’s current crop of Arsenal polls received the seal of approval in today’s @Ladbrokes poll, which asked whether they were the best Gunners side since the title-winning team of 2003-04.

It was a close-run thing, with 52 per cent of you arguing that the Emirates outfit are the best squad Arsene Wenger has assembled since the ‘Invincibles’ who lifted the Premier League without a single loss back in 2004.

With Arsenal sweeping aside all challengers, there’s certainly plenty of evidence to back up the optimism of Gooners right now.

Six Premier League wins in succession have seen the capital club net 13 times and concede just five, while last night’s 6-0 hammering of Ludogorets cemented the Gunners’ place at the top of a tough Champions League group.

However, 48 per cent of you aren’t so convinced by Arsenal’s recent purple patch.

The 4-3 loss to Liverpool in their league opener is reason to believe that Wenger’s men are vulnerable at the back, while the fixture list has been kind to them of late – with games against Burnley, Hull City and Swansea City.

But, as the old adage goes, ‘you can only beat the team in front of you’. If the Gunners keep doing that, the percentage of doubters will continue to plummet.

They’re next in action against Middlesbrough on Saturday, with 2/7 for the Gunners to record another victory. The last two meetings between these two have both ended 2-0 to Arsenal, so the 5/1 for a three-peat of that scoreline.

Victory on Saturday would propel the hosts to the top of the Premier League table, and could see the 9/2 on a first Arsenal title in over a decade tumble.
