Spurs looking for another Dele Alli with Peterborough pursuit

After plucking Dele Alli from League One obscurity and turning him into an England star, Tottenham clearly have reason to return to the third tier when looking for new young players.

It comes as little surprise, then, that the latest transfer gossip columns have Spurs at the head of a winding top-flight queue trying to sign Peterborough youngster Leonardo Da Silva Lopes.

The 17-year-old has broken into the Posh first team this season having impressed in the club’s youth setup last term.

So far, the Portugal native has made nine League One appearances with seven of those coming from the start.

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry confirmed that scouts from a number of Premier League sides had been to watch Lopes, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Southampton joining the Lilywhites in watching the teenager.

Reports suggest the ABAX Stadium outfit are resigned to losing their star man in January, although the club may hold out for the same kind of deal that Tottenham brokered with MK Dons for Alli.

Spurs signed the now 15-cap international in the winter transfer window of the 2014/15 season and was immediately sent back to Stadium mk on loan.

He finished that term with 16 league goals in 39 appearances before following it up with a superb debut top-flight campaign at White Hart Lane, in which he claimed PFA Young Player of the Year honours.

At the time it seemed like a story such as his was quite rare, but it’s clear Spurs are intent on repeating it with their pursuit of Lopes.
