Are these 3 Tottenham players beginning to outgrow their club?

Tottenham Hotspur crashed out of the Champions League last night with a disappointing defeat away at Monaco, meaning they’ll now battle it out with CSKA Moscow for third-place in Group E and a spot in the Europa League.

But, quite simply, that’s not good enough for a team like Spurs, and the longer they go on like this, the more chance they have of seeing their best players leave for bigger clubs.

It’s happened a number of times over the years, with the likes of Gareth Bale and Luka Modric both moving to Real Madrid, while Dimitar Berbatov famously made the switch to Manchester United back in 2008.

And despite recording just one win in their last nine games in all competitions, three names are continuing to make a solid case for a big money move away from White Hart Lane.

Hugo Lloris

It’s frightening to think where this side would be without the French shot-stopper. Arriving in England four years ago, Lloris has since established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

With the 29-year-old between the sticks, Spurs boasted the best defence in the league last season, and it’s a similar story this time out, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men conceding just eight goals (another league best).

But such is the quality of Lloris, it’s inevitable a bigger club will come calling soon – especially given that Spurs are currently failing to keep up with the top sides in England and Europe.

Real Madrid have been keen on David de Gea in recent years, but the United keeper has since signed a new deal at Old Trafford, meaning when their transfer embargo is lifted in 2018, the Galacticos may well turn their attention to Lloris.

Toby Alderweireld

27-year-old Alderweireld is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

And like Lloris, the Belgium international played a key role in Spurs’ title push last year, featuring in every game, missing just six minutes of top-flight football.

He’s got a goal in him, too, netting four times last season in huge games against the likes of Man City, Man United and Arsenal.

The centre-half hasn’t featured for Tottenham since their 1-1 draw away at West Brom, and it’s clear his presence is sorely missed, with Spurs keeping just two clean sheets in the eight games that he’s been out.

There’s a whole host of clubs that would snap him up if they had the chance, and he could well become available at the end of the season if Spurs fail to better last year’s third-place finish.

Harry Kane

Cover your eyes, Spurs fans, because this could be the worst news you’ll read this week.

Forget Lloris and Alderweireld, and let’s think about where Spurs would be without Harry Kane.

Despite playing just seven league games this season, Kane’s goals alone have earned Spurs seven points.

Time and time again he comes to their rescue, but here’s the worrying part: so did Gareth Bale.

But Real Madrid came in with an offer that Daniel Levy couldn’t refuse. The amount of money that’s in the game right now, coupled with Levy’s unwillingness to budge on the club’s current wage structure, means Kane could be plying his trade elsewhere in the next year or so.

For Tottenham, it’s simple. They have to tie these three down on longer deals, but they can’t do that without the promise of a genuine challenge for domestic and European silverware.
