Liverpool and Arsenal can take advantage of late Man City collapse

To anyone that backed the 1-1 between Manchester City and Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon: we salute you. And to those of you who backed the City win to increase the returns on your acca: boy do we feel your pain?!

We were offering odds as long as 12/1 prior to kick-off for that outcome.

And while the whole Ladbrokes News team expected Pep Guardiola’s men to breeze through this fixture, the incredible victory over Barcelona is now somewhat bittersweet.

In fact, this is the third time in four games following a midweek Champions League tie that City have dropped points in their next league match.

Not that Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool fans will care.

That draw against Middlesbrough means that City’s three main rivals for the title can leapfrog them this weekend. And that’s not something Guardiola will want heading into the international break, especially given that his side have led the way for much of the first part of this season.

A return of six points from a possible 15 is hardly the form of potential champions – who have already been as short as 7/10 to win the title. That kind of form is in fact on par with Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.

And people said the Special One was struggling of late!

Throw into the mix the fact that the Gunners and Liverpool have picked up 13 points over the same period of time and Pep may well have a fight on his hands for the trophy.

Up next for the Gunners is a tricky North London Derby, but the chance to stretch two points clear of City at the top of the table means Arsene Wenger’s men have even more to play for.

Liverpool, meanwhile, welcome an in-form Watford side to Anfield. But, like Arsenal, they now know how huge a win would be for their title hopes.
