Man City look to end left-back woes by signing Tottenham ace

| 12.12.2016

Manchester City’s title hopes took another hit with Saturday’s 4-2 defeat at Leicester City, and that looks to have spurred Pep Guardiola into action, with the Spaniard reportedly lining up a January move for Tottenham left-back Danny Rose.

The 26-year-old has been highly impressive this season, with Spurs currently boasting the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League – conceding just 11 times in 15 games.

Reliable and solid at the back, he also offers a creative presence coming forward, having chalked up six assists for the Lilywhites since the beginning of last season, so it’s no surprise the Citizens’ boss has made him a top target.

And there’s little doubt City need reinforcements on the left of defence, with Gael Clichy looking well past his prime and Aleksandr Kolarov also unconvincing when he’s featured.

That defensive weakness is backed up by the fact Guardiola’s side have kept just one clean sheet in their last 17 games, conceding three or more goals in four of those outings.

With Transfermarkt.co.uk estimating Rose’s market value at a modest £11.9m, he would be an absolute bargain at anything like that price, and with a wealth of Premier League experience – 124 games in total – he’d be ready to slot straight in.

Despite their recent wobble, the four-time English champions are still an attractive prospect for players, especially with the club having reached the last four in the Champions League in 2015-16.

Next up for Man City is a home clash with Watford on Wednesday night.

It’s 1/4 for the hosts to return to winning ways, while 5/4 says they win to nil for the fourth time in five meetings with the Hornets.
