3 strikers West Ham should be looking at after unsuccessful hunt

Published:

It’s no secret that Slaven Bilic wants to add a striker to his ranks during this transfer window. The West Ham boss has already sent loanee Simone Zaza back to Juventus, leaving him one man short up top.

And with their other five recognised strikers netting a mere four goals in 39 Premier League games combined, it’s no surprise to see the east London outfit scour the market for a new forward.

But, having reportedly had two bids rejected for Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe and Brentford’s Scott Hogan, here are three other names the Hammers should be targeting this month…

Callum Wilson

Can West Ham tempt the Bournemouth man into a move to the London Stadium?

On paper this may seem like a backwards step for the Cherries man, given that they’re some four places above the Hammers in the league.

But it could be the next step in Wilson’s development, with a move to such a big club likely to increase his chances of an international call-up.

The former England U21 international has really taken to life in the top-flight, with 11 Premier League goals to his name in 30 games. And he’s just the kind of player Bilic needs right now.

A real nuisance for defenders, Wilson is thought to be worth around £20m, the Hammers would really be making a statement should they sign him.

Odion Ighalo

The Watford striker netted a staggering 16 goals in his debut Premier League season playing up-front for the Hornets.

And he was the subject of a potential £30m West Brom move back in the summer transfer window, so the current club would clearly listen to any offers.

Granted, he’s yet to have a massive impact on Watford’s campaign this time out, scoring just one goal.

But that may well drive his price down to something in the region of £20m, a fee the Hammers would gladly part with for a player who is approaching the best years of his career.

Andrea Belotti

They may have failed to get the best out of the last Italian striker which moved to the London Stadium. But the capture of one of Europe’s hottest talents would surely make up for the signing of Zaza.

Belotti has already netted 13 goals in Series A for Torino this season, behind only Mauro Icardi in the top scorer charts.

And having spent his whole career to date playing in his homeland, the 23-year-old could be interested in a new challenge.

The Hammers will have to act quickly if they are to secure the Italy international’s services, as Europe’s elite clubs will inevitably be forming an orderly queue for the forward come May.

Valued at £17m by transfermarkt.co.uk, Belotti has only recently signed a contract extension with the Turin outfit. So it’s likely the Hammers would have to break their transfer record, which currently stands at £20.5m, if they’re to sign the Italian ace.

Who do you think the Hammers should make a bid for?
