Durrant favourite for BDO World title, but Noppert fancied by many

Published:

Let’s face it, it’s going to take something pretty special to stop world number one, Glen Durrant, from lifting his first BDO World Darts Championship trophy this year.

But that something is just behind him in the market, and he’s receiving plenty of support from punters in the build-up to the tournament.

Danny Noppert is fast becoming one of the most exciting talents on the BDO circuit, and at 6/1, plenty of fans and pundits reckon this could be his year.

Granted, Duzza is rightly priced at 7/4 to go all the way this year, providing he takes his form of 2016 into the Lakeside event.

But Dutchman Noppie hasn’t had a bad year himself, winning the Scottish Open, the German Open and the Den Haag Open.

And punters have been lumping on the 26-year-old in recent days, which has made him the most backed player after Durrant.

Entering the competition as the third seed means there’s every chance Noppert will meet Durrant in this year’s final, providing both players live up to their expectation.

And given that Duzza will be heading into each of his matches as clear favourite, it’ll be interesting to see how he fares on a stage where he’s let us down so often before.

However, for Noppert, this is his first appearance at Lakeside. Essentially he’ll be heading into the tournament with nothing to prove to anybody. Instead he can relax and play his natural game.

Do that, and he may just cause some serious problems to his opponents.

And at 6/1, we reckon there could certainly be some value in backing the current world number three to become the third Dutchman to lift the famous trophy.
