Wolves keen on permanent Costa deal but Hull move could be on the cards

Unsurprisingly, Benfica loanee Helder Costa has been Wolverhampton Wanderers’ standout player this season. And with the 23-year-old set to return to Portugal when the campaign draws to a close, boss Paul Lambert is reportedly doing everything in his powers to keep him at Molineux.
But he’ll face stiff competition from a host of Premier League clubs for Costa’s signature in the summer.
It’s unlikely Wolves will find themselves playing in the top-flight of English football come August, which would leave the winger with a decision to make: does he give it another go in the Black Country, or would he be better off moving elsewhere?
One thing we can be sure of is that Costa won’t be at Benfica at the start of the 2017-18 campaign.
The Portuguese outfit have been quick to palm him off in the past three seasons to Deportivo La Coruna, Monaco and Wolves respectively.
But the forward is improving week on week, and inevitably, it’s meant that bigger clubs are keeping an eye on developments.
Seven goals and five assists in the Championship make Costa Wolves’ most effective player so far this campaign.
And there are plenty of Prem clubs who could do with his services next season – one of which is Hull City.
Were Marco Silva to keep Hull above the relegation zone come May, there’s every chance the Tigers could add the midfielder to their ranks in the close-season.
Having sold Jake Livermore to West Bromwich Albion, while a Robert Snodgrass exit looks increasingly likely – there’ll certainly be money in the bank for Hull to spend on the Benfica ace.
And given that Silva himself is Portuguese, a move to East Yorkshire could be a tempting one for Costa to team up with his compatriot.
Of course, a lot rides on whether Hull can complete one of the finest escapes we’ve seen in recent years.
But it’s so far, so good for Silva at the KCOM Stadium. Three wins from his opening five games have given fans hope.
With 10/3 currently on offer for Hull to stay up, there could well be some value in that.
And if it comes in, supporters will have reason to be excited about their future under the 39-year-old boss – especially if he adds Helder Costa to his ranks.
