A potential Arsenal target playing on the wing for Monaco, but who could be moulded into a fearsome striker. Where have we heard that before?

Teenage wonderkid Kylian Mbappe has been linked with the Gunners yet again this week, and he isn’t dubbed the new Thierry Henry for nothing.

Blessed with dazzling pace and skill, the French youngster is well on course to becoming one of the game’s finest talents, and Monaco are desperately trying to ensure their star talent doesn’t play too much too soon.

Under Leonardo Jardim, Mbappe has been handed six starts in Ligue 1 this season, and five of his appearances this term have lasted under eight minutes.

Mbappe has only just turned 18, but can already count on over 30 appearances for the senior squad on the French Riviera since making his debut last season.

The winger has already displaced Henry as the club’s youngest goalscorer, and that was more than enough to persuade Arsene Wenger to make a move last summer.

It didn’t come off however, and Monaco slapped a three-year-deal on their latest protege.

But Wenger has revealed this week that the Gunners are still keeping tabs on the Bondy-born forward.

Despite his limited game-time, Mbappe is revelling in Monaco’s free-scoring side, with Jardim’s men by far the most potent attack force in Europe.

With 65 goals from 22 games, Les Monegasque are averaging just shy of three goals a game in Ligue 1 as they chase a first title in 17 years.

And Mbappe has already bagged his first professional hat-trick, as Monaco swept to a 7-0 thrashing over Rennes in the Coupe de la Ligue in December.

In Ligue 1, the teenage star has bagged three goals and six assists from just 14 league appearances this season.

And in a slither of match experience in this season’s Champions League and it’s turning into a fine campaign for the youngster.

Arsenal will have to go some to prise Mbappe away from the Cote d’Azur, though.

With Monaco seeing several star men depart in recent years, including Anthony Martial, they may not be so keen to sell.

In the meantime, Mbappe could make more headlines this weekend, when Monaco take on Nice in the most anticipated Derby de la Cote d’Azur in decades.

With the pair first and second in Ligue 1, never has so much been at stake, and you can read our full preview here.

Keep an eye on the kid Mbappe though – Arsenal are.
