Chelsea odds-on to bring home Everton’s Belgian maestro

| 08.02.2017

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea are currently flying high, nine points clear at the top of the Premier League. But now it seems they could be an even more fearsome proposition next season, with the Blues 1/2 favourites to re-sign former striker Romelu Lukaku – having been as long as 3/1 earlier this week.

The 23-year-old has been in blistering form for Everton this season, netting 17 times in 25 games, including four in last weekend’s 6-3 victory over Bournemouth.

That’s taken the striker’s career total to 136 goals – and counting – so it’s no surprise that the powerful hitman is one of Europe’s most sought after players. But it’s former club Chelsea who have now taken a decisive lead in the race to sign the Toffees’ man.

Lukaku left Stamford Bridge in 2014 having failed to score in 15 games over the course of three seasons, but having proven his worth at Goodison Park, he’s believed to be desperate to return and show Blues fans just what they’ve been missing.

However, the west London club are still likely to have a battle on their hands to sign the Belgian, with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain each 6/1 to usurp the favourites and snap up the former Anderlecht ace.

Meanwhile, it’s 8/1 he adds another layer to Barcelona’s current ‘MSN’ strikeforce with a move to the Catalan giants, while our traders are offering 10/1 for the Antwerp native to follow in the footsteps of Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini by swapping Goodison Park for Old Trafford.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Conte’s Chelsea could be set to dominate the Premier League again next season, by bringing one of world football’s brightest stars back to the Bridge.”

Next up for Chelsea is a trip to Burnley on Sunday, with 2/5 for the Blues to enjoy a fourth successive victory at Turf Moor.
