Ladbrokes SPFL Transfer Wrap: Hyndman stars, Hearts bag Hughes

It wasn’t the busiest Deadline Day in the Ladbrokes SPFL but throughout the January transfer window as a whole there was still plenty for fans to get excited about.

The 12 Ladbrokes Premiership sides made 42 signings between them with Celtic’s £3m capture of Eboue Kouassi from Krasnador and Rangers’ set of loan deals arguably the most eye-catching business.

Here’s our look at some of the best deals…

Hyndman is already doing the business at Gers

American youngster Emerson Hyndman has wasted little time in endearing himself to the Ibrox faithful with the on-loan midfielder playing a starring role since heading north from Bournemouth.

Having set a goal up on his debut against Motherwell in the cup, Hyndman then picked up the Man of the Match award when making his league debut against the same opposition, a just reward for a performance that included a fine strike to seal the victory.

Add in the loan signing of Jon Toral from Arsenal, as well as the captures of promising goalkeeper Jak Alnwick from Port Vale and David Bates from Raith Rovers and it’s been a pretty decent window for Mark Warburton’s side.

Kouassi has the hunger to force himself into Rodgers’ plans

Ivory Coast midfielder Eboue Kouassi has made no secret of his big ambitions since arriving in Scotland.

The 19-year-old faces a lot of competition in the centre of the park but as he told BBC Sport upon signing, it’s a challenge that excites him.

He said: “”At the moment, since I haven’t played for a wee while, I need to get back to full fitness then after that the coach is going to decide.

“When you play alongside players with such experience, you learn a lot. I expect players such as Scott Brown to really help me and maybe guide me.

“There’s lots of great players that have come to Celtic before. It’s got a great, great coach at the moment.”

Hearts involved in a flurry of activity

Ian Cathro has rung the changes at Tynecastle, bringing in no fewer than nine players in a bid to reverse Hearts’ ailing fortunes.

Veteran defender Aaron Hughes has arrived on a free with Leonard Sowah (free, Hamilton), Malaury Martin (free, Lillestrom), Andraz Struna (free), Esmael Goncalves (Famagusta), Dylan Bikey (Stirling Albion) Choulay (loan, Stoke) Alexandros Tziolis (PAOK) , Anastasios Avlonitis (Olympiacos) the other incomers.

Cathro desperately needs his new men to bed in quickly but the signs certainly suggest the Jam Tarts gaffer is building the team he wants.

Caley Thistle welcome back McKay, Humphrey joins Hibs

Northern Ireland winger Billy McKay has been welcomed back at Inverness Caledonian Thistle with open arms following his loan move from Wigan Athletic.

McKay scored 62 times in his previous three-and-a-half year stint in the Highlands although he couldn’t stop Caley from slumping to a 3-0 defeat at Hamilton Academical on his return.

Meanwhile, promotion-chasing Hibernian snapped up former Motherwell star Chris Humphrey in early January.

The Jamaican has impressed in wins over Dundee United, Dumbarton and Bonnyrigg Rose and could well prove to be a shrewd bit of business by Neil Lennon.

Clive Swift joined St. Johnstone on Deadline Day with the 19-year-old heading across the border from Championship side Preston North End.

Everton goalkeeper Russell Griffiths has gone to Motherwell on-loan alongside Scottish under-21 defender Zak Jules, who comes in from Reading.

And finally, former Magpie Lee Clark used his connections to full effect in early January. The Kilmarnock boss has brought in forward Cal Roberts, midfielder Sean Longstaff and goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, with all three from Newcastle United.
