Premier League Darts: Three Top Bets worth backing for Week 1

| 02.02.2017

Strap yourselves in folks, because Premier League Darts is set to return to our screens for the next few months, and you won’t want to miss a single match this year.

If you thought the PDC would break you into the domestic campaign gently, then think again.

In a repeat of this year’s World Championship and Masters finals, Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson will face off against each other for the third time in exactly a month.

And if that’s not enough to get you excited, we’ve priced up a whole host of specials which you can check out by clicking here.

In the meantime, Ladbrokes News has picked out three of the top bets for the evening that you should seriously consider backing to get your darts season off to a flier…

Dave Chisnall to beat Phil Taylor – 5/2

While plenty will raise their eyebrows at this one, we’ve got the stats to back it up…

Chisnall has won his opening round fixture in every year he’s competed in the Premier League. Better still, he’s dropped just one leg in the last two years in Week 1, with a 7-1 victory over Peter Wright and a 7-0 whitewash over Robert Thornton in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Taylor, on the other hand, has found it hard to hit the ground running in this competition.

You’d have to go back to 2010 to find the last time the Power won in the opening week, suffering four defeats and three draws since then.

Huybrechts and Van Barneveld both to win – 7/1

Just one of our specials for this evening, we reckon this one has a good chance of landing.

Huybrechts is certainly no mug, and on his game he’ll beat anyone on the PDC circuit. If he brings his best arrows, he beats The Machine. The Premier League hasn’t been kind to Wade in recent years either, finishing in seventh and sixth in 2015 and 2016.

Barney will also feel like Adrian Lewis is there for the taking. Jackpot hasn’t been at the top of his game for a while, and the worst person he could be up against tonight is the five-time world champ.

In fact, RVB has won six of the last seven meetings between the two players, including a 7-4 victory in last year’s Premier League.

Total 100+ finishes: 8 or more – 4/5

This one is our banker for the night.

In total, we could potentially see a maximum of 60 legs thrown, by the best players on the circuit right now.

Each player should be looking to achieve at least one ton-plus checkout. Do that, and we’re on to a winner here.
