Arsenal lead Man United and Everton in race for Leicester City man

They may already have one goalkeeper with four Premier League trophies in their ranks, but the latest reports are suggesting Arsenal could be about to sign another title-winning shot-stopper this summer in Kasper Schmeichel.

And our traders have this morning made the Gunners 3/1 favourites to land the 30-year-old as a potential successor to the ageing Petr Cech.

For the first season in a long time, the former Chelsea man has come under criticism from fans and pundits alike, and he has just eight clean sheets to his name from 27 top-flight matches – just half the amount he managed to pick up in the whole of last campaign.

Schmeichel, meanwhile, has impressed for Leicester in a season which – for large parts – his side have struggled.

Injury kept the Denmark international out between November and December, and his better performances for the Foxes have perhaps been in the Champions League, where he has conceded just two goals in six games in his debut campaign in the competition.

There’s even an argument that Leicester wouldn’t be in the quarter-finals in Europe without Schmeichel, who remarkably saved two penalties as the East Midlands outfit beat Sevilla 3-2 on aggregate to book themselves a place in the last eight.

While the Gunners are leading the way in the race for his signature, Everton are joint second-favourites at 6/1 to land Schmeichel, a price they share with Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.

Elsewhere, a return to Manchester City looks more unlikely, with 8/1 on offer for Schmeichel to team up with Pep Guardiola.

A move away from the Emirates for Cech has not been discussed though, which means the Dane would arrive in north London as direct competition for the 34-year-old.

Of course, that would leave Arsenal with David Ospina, Emiliano Martinez, Matt Macey and a returning Wojciech Szczesny on their books, so we can expect to see a couple of those names moving on this summer.
