Could Bayern Munich snatch Arsenal star this summer? Odds say so

Published:

As if Bayern Munich hadn’t done enough damage in north London this year, they could be preparing to take an Arsenal star to the Allianz Arena in the summer.

Mesut Ozil? Nope. Alexis Sanchez? Probably not. Hector Bellerin? Keep guessing…

Granit Xhaka.

Yep, you read that right. Reports today are suggesting that the Bundesliga giants are monitoring developments at the Emirates regarding the 24-year-old central midfielder.

He’s had a strange start to life in London, impressing in some patches yet frustrating in others.

But apparently Bayern have seen enough to declare some kind of interest – despite the Switzerland international playing every minute of the 10-2 aggregate drubbing the Gunners suffered at the hands of Carlo Ancelotti’s men in the Last 16 tie.

He picked up two yellow cards in those games, too.

In fact, a booking last weekend against Lincoln City was his fifth consecutive yellow card in all competitions – since returning from a four-game ban for a second straight red of the season.

Suffice to say the Bundesliga outfit aren’t thinking of signing Xhaka for his ability to defend.

On the ball though, it’s a different story altogether as far as the former Borussia Monchengladbach man is concerned.

In Santi Cazorla’s absence, Xhaka is arguably Arsenal’s most attack-minded central midfielder, and his ability to pick out a pass from nowhere, as well as his ferocious shot makes it easy to see why the likes of Bayern would be interested in his services.

And of course, Xabi Alonso’s retirement means there’s a slot in the engine room that needs filling in the German capital.

But this is far from being just paper talk, as our traders make it just a 7/4 shot that Xhaka’s next club is Bayern Munich.

What do fans think to that? Should the Gunners do everything they can to keep hold of him, or would they be better off without him?
