He’s been arguably the most sought-after Premier League target for over two years, but now it appears more likely than ever that Alexandre Lacazette will not be crossing the channel.

That’s because reports today say the Lyon hotshot has agreed a verbal contract with Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish outfit are no strangers to a star striker, counting Diego Forlan, Sergio Aguero, Fernando Torres, Radamel Falcao and Diego Costa on their roster down the years.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have been repeatedly linked with the French international over the past few seasons.

But reports coming out of Spain claim that Atletico bigwigs met with Lacazette last month, and that a deal has been agreed in principle.

It has also been touted that the forward was impressed by the Madrid club’s new stadium – which they move into next season – while the chance to play alongside international compatriot Antoine Griezmann has also been a factor.

Lacazette has netted 23 goals in just 24 Ligue 1 appearances this term, and is sitting 29 for the campaign across all competitions.

But Lyon have failed to match his own starring performances. Les Gones haven’t won the league since 2008 and are set to lose their prize asset.

The 25-year-old striker has scored over 20 goals in each of the last three seasons, and has netted over 120 goals for his current employers.
