Ladbrokes Players Championship: Trump fav, but Fu will make it hard

After a gruelling week in Llandudno, 16 of the world’s top snooker players have been whittled down to just two. And it’s Judd Trump who heads into the Players Championship final as the 1/2 favourite over Marco Fu (13/8).

But the last seven days of action suggest anything can happen today.

Both players looked likely to face early exits, with Trump facing Ronnie O’Sullivan and Fu coming up against Mark Selby in the quarter-finals. But they came out of those respective clashes relatively unscathed, and haven’t looked like losing since.

The Juddernaut booked his place in the final with a 6-4 victory over Ali Carter on Friday night, while Fu came from 5-3 down to defeat Ding Junhui in yesterday’s semi-final.

And here’s what the man himself had to say on the match, as well as his thoughts on today’s opponent…

And despite Trump heading into this one as favourite, he actually lost to Fu the last time the pair met – back in January.

But these two have tended to meet in much shorter formats in recent years, and when it comes to longer matches (as this one is), it’s Trump who has come out on top – beating Fu 13-7 and 13-8 in the 2013 and 2015 World Championships respectively.

With that in mind, there could be some value in the even-money on offer for Trump to win with a -2.5 frame handicap in this Best of 19 encounter.

But it’s the 4/6 on offer for Over 2.5 centuries to be hit which looks the most tempting bet of the day.

Once this pair get going, they’re hard to stop, and you’d expect both players to hit at least a couple of centuries over this long format.
