Pochettino to PSG? Tottenham boss new favourite to replace Emery

He may have only taken over last summer, but it looks as though the pressure on Paris Saint-Germain manager Unai Emery’s shoulders is beginning to mount – and the latest odds are suggesting that could be very bad news for Tottenham Hotspur.

If the latest reports are to be believed, the former Sevilla boss could be heading for an early Parc des Princes exit, following a tough debut season with the French giants.

If the Parisian outfit are to make a change in the dugout, our traders reckon they’ll send a search party over to north London to try and tempt Mauricio Pochettino away from Spurs.

And there’ll be plenty of nail-biting in and around White Hart Lane this summer if Emery is given the boot over in France.

That’s because Pochettino is the clear favourite at 2/1 to be PSG’s next permanent manager. And you’d have to say it’d be a hard position for any top manager in world football to turn down.

Having run away with the league last year (finishing a staggering 31 points ahead of their nearest challengers, Lyon), they’re struggling to repeat such levels of dominance this time out and find themselves a point behind leaders Monaco.

But what will have hurt both the board and supporters more than anything will have been the side’s display in their last 16 second-leg clash with Barcelona in the Champions League.

Despite heading to the Camp Nou with a 4-0 lead and scoring an away goal against Luis Enrique’s men, PSG still failed to qualify, and Emery’s position has come under scrutiny ever since.

A lot could depend on what Spurs do between now and the end of the season though.

They’re still going strong in the Emirates FA Cup, and they’re hanging on in the title race – at least mathematically. But were things to go horribly wrong, the Argentine may just feel he’s taken the north London outfit as far as he possibly can.

If that is the case, and that scenario coincided with a decision on Emery’s future being made in France, then we could see Poch leading PSG out at Parc des Prince come the opening day of next season.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger remains a 5/1 shot to swap the Gunners for Les Parisiens, having already worked in France with Monaco for seven years.

And that’s a price he shares with current Lyon boss Bruno Genesio.
