BREAKING: The 40 horses declared for the 2017 Grand National

The declarations have been made for this year’s Grand National with Pendra the notable absentee from the list of 40 horses set to go to post at Aintree on Saturday 8 April. 

Last year’s runner-up, The Last Samuri, heads the weights for the 170th running with Doctor Harper sneaking into the final spot.

Four reserves will also be named and they’ll replace any non-runners declared before 13:00 on Friday 7 April.

*Update: Bless The Wings, Knock House, Sambremont and Viva Steve have been confirmed as reserves.*

Brian Ellison’s Definitly Red still tops the betting at 10/1 with Grand National Trial winner Vieux Lion Rouge disputing at 11/1.

One For Arthur has also been popular at 12s while previous winning owner JP McManus holds a strong hand with both Cross Country winner Cause of Causes and this season’s Gold Cup contender, More Of That (14/1 apiece) his leading fancies.
