Dortmund v Monaco: Have an adventurous Aubameyang bet

Published:

It probably doesn’t need us to tell you this but don’t expect the Champions League quarter-final tie between Borussia Dortmund and Monaco to offer up a lesson in the art of defending.

This mouth watering clash kicks-off in Germany this week with BVB hosting the first leg.

Thomas Tuchel’s side recovered from an initial 1-0 deficit against Benfica to win their home clash 4-0 and progress from the last 16.

Added to that, Dortmund broke the record for the most number of goals in the group stage when firing in 21 earlier in the campaign, so it’s clear to see where their strengths lie.

However, in Monaco the Bundesliga giants will be taking on the only side to have advanced from a knockout tie having conceded six goals.

Something’s got to give, right?

Well, the home team are skinny 8/13 favourites to win at Signal Iduna Park with Monaco a very generous 15/4 and the draw priced at 16/5.

But we think there’s only one certainly here and yes, you guessed it, we’re talking about goals.

We’re offering even-money for there to be over 3.5 goals in this clash while the 11/10 for there to be over 1.5 goals in the first-half also offers plenty of value.

Les Rouges et Blancs have conceded eight goals in their previous two Champions League games on the road and have kept just one clean sheet in eight games in this season’s competition. There were also three goals by the break in their 5-3 defeat at Manchester City.

Meanwhile, for all of their offensive prowess, Dortmund’s frailties at the back were cruelly exposed in last weekend’s 4-1 hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich so neither side can be trusted to keep the opposition at bay.

It’s 6/4 for Monaco to score over 1.5 goals in North Rhine-Westphalia with 11/2 available for Radamel Falcao to net in an away win. Teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe is 19/10 to score at any time.

For Tuchel’s outfit, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the obvious option having already netted seven times in Europe’s premier competition this term.

We go 11/10 he finds the back of the net in a home win with the more adventurous 5/2 about the 27-year-old hitting two or more goals.
