Wenger now odds-on for summer Arsenal exit, Sanchez 4/7 to follow

Published:

Arsene Wenger is now as short as 4/6 NOT to be in charge at Arsenal on the opening day of next season, following last night’s defeat to Crystal Palace.

It’s the fourth league game in a row on the road where the Gunners have conceded three goals – something they’ve not done since 1929.

The worrying statistics don’t end their, either. This was the Frenchman’s first defeat against Crystal Palace since taking over the North London outfit 21 years ago.

It’s a result which has also left the Gunners some 14 points behind bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur with just eight games to go. Wenger has never been looking up at Spurs in the table since taking over Arsenal.

He’s also achieved 20 top four finishes in a row in the Premier League, although the Gunners are now seven points behind the division’s leading quartet. And that’s led our traders to make Arsenal as short as 1/12 to finish outside of the Champions League spots by the end of the season.

Our traders have reopened the Next Arsenal Manager market following last night’s shock defeat at Selhurst Park, and as things stand it’s Juventus boss Max Allegri who leads the way as Wenger’s successor at 4/1.

Meanwhile, former favourite Eddie Howe is now a 10/1 shot for the role, while former players Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp are 25/1 outsiders.

And with the Gunners struggling to keep up with the top four, it’s led to even more speculation linking Alexis Sanchez with a move away from the Emirates in the summer.

He’s now 4/7 to call time on his Arsenal career, with a whole host of potential suitors ready to do battle for the Chilean’s signature.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Last night’s result did Wenger no favours with fans, and the Gunners’ season is over as far as our traders are concerned.”

He added: “As for his replacement, Allegri continues to lead the way although it’s looking likely that whoever leads the Gunners out on the opening day of next season will do so with no Sanchez to call upon.”
