West Ham eyeing summer swoop for Arsenal outcast Perez

Now that it’s April, technically the football season finishes next month. And that means another bout of summer transfer activity isn’t too far away, and that could be great news for Lucas Perez and West Ham.

The Spaniard has been handed a rough deal since joining Arsenal from Deportivo la Coruna last summer, and has started just two Premier League games.

Nevertheless, eight goals and six assists in 22 appearances across all competitions is a very respectable return.

It’s been clear for some time that Perez isn’t at the forefront of Arsene Wenger’s plans, and with a spot in Spain’s 2018 World Cup squad to aim for, the forward is after first-team football.

And that’s where West Ham come in.

The east Londoners look set for a mid-table finish this season, but there’s little doubt a summer overhaul is required.

Andy Carroll is currently West Ham’s sole bespoke striker, so they could certainly use a player of Perez’s calibre.

Valued at £14m by transfermarkt.co.uk, it’s been reported this weekend that the Hammers are making significant progress in trying to sign the Spanish hotshot.

And if they can capture the man who hit 17 goals and 10 assists in La Liga during the 2015-16 campaign, they’ll benefit greatly.
