3 reasons Inverness CT will bounce back in Ladbrokes Championship

Despite a rally which saw Inverness Caledonian Thistle win three of their last four games of the Ladbrokes Premiership campaign, the Highland outfit were narrowly relegated on the final day of the season.
However, following the departure of Richie Foran as manager, the Caley Jags have a shot at a fresh start. And that’s far from the only reason we fancy them to enjoy a far happier time in 2017-18.
For starters…
Goals aren’t a problem
Despite finishing bottom of the table, Inverness actually outscored four of the sides above them, including sixth-placed Partick Thistle. In fact, they were only six away from matching the total of Tommy Wright’s high-flying St Johnstone side.
While whoever takes the reins next needs to fix the club’s leaky defence, the options in midfield and attack are actually pretty promising.
Admittedly, a few players are set for the exit, but with the likes of Scott Boden, Liam Polworth and Iain Vigurs all set to stay, a couple more solid additions could see them rack up the goals in the second tier.
They came straight back up last time
Caley Jags fans suffered the agony of seeing their team relegated in 2009, but the mood didn’t stay gloomy for too long, as they cruised to the Division One (now: Championship) title the following season, beating closest challengers Dundee by 12 points.
While – with the exception of keeper Ryan Esson – this is a totally different squad, they’ve ended this campaign in better shape than the last time they dropped out of the top-flight. And with the likes of Rangers and Hibernian now out of the way in the Championship, succeeding in the Champ is an easier task than in recent years.
We’re not saying they’ll definitely win the title, but a play-off spot is definitely achievable. And from there, who knows…
Changes in dugout and boardroom
While some clubs chop and change things too often, it’s easy to understand why changes have been made at Inverness following relegation, with Foran exiting and a new chairman arriving at the club.
Time will tell, but a reshuffle at the club – and a potential boost in funding for summer signings – could be just the boost Inverness need to begin turning the corner…
