Arsenal v Sunderland: Back Gunners to maintain top-four hopes

Published:

Arsenal’s bid to finish in the Premier League top four for the 21st consecutive season continues when they host Sunderland.

Having trounced Stoke City 4-1 on Saturday evening, Arsene Wenger won’t have been glad to see Liverpool roll over West Ham 4-0 on Sunday.

That result at the London Stadium means Arsenal remain outsiders for that coveted Champions League spot at 5/1.

But they can keep the pressure on and take the fight to the final day by beating the Black Cats.

With odds of 1/9 on an Arsenal win, and 25/1 for Sunderland, our traders are expecting a straightforward victory for the Gunners.

David Moyes’ men haven’t won at Arsenal since 1983, and with the Wearsiders failing to score in nine of their last 15 away league games, the Gunners look great value to win to nil at 4/5.

Arsenal have also claimed five of the last seven meetings by two goals or more, and it looks assured at 1/3 that they will do so again.

Alexis Sanchez hit a double in 4-1 win at the Stadium of Light earlier this season, but the Chilean will face a late fitness test after suffering a knock against Stoke.

So the goalscorer value could lie with Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman started at the weekend and has scored three times in his last two appearances.

Giroud is 13/5 to score first, and 2/5 anytime.
