Through Irish Eyes: Galway United set to add to Boh’s woes

| 26.05.2017

In recent weeks, Stephen Kenny’s Dundalk have started to look more like, well, Stephen Kenny’s Dundalk.

The patient build-up play, clever individual dribbling and sharp one-twos saw the Lillywhites notch up seven goals against Sligo and Limerick but they were halted midweek in a scoreless draw to Derry City, who are themselves unbeaten in eight games.

St.Patrick’s Athletic are much maligned when It comes to this column, but I don’t think the most die-hard Saints fan would argue their chance in this game off the back of a first-half mauling to Finn Harps.

Harps scored a fifth of their goals this season in the first-half of the midweek clash.

It shouldn’t take too much for the Lillywhites to get and stay in front, so Dundalk in the First-Half Result market is the selection.

Verdict: First Half Result – Dundalk @ 5/4

Galway United to win and Under 3.5 goals was the winning selection last week, and I’m looking for an even bigger price this week for their clash with Bohemians.

The Tribesmen have a good home record but very rarely control a game. I can see it being a close contest and give slight advantage to the home side in a low scoring affair.

Bohemians play a similar defensive style and look to use their hitman Dinny Corocan on the break. To the best of their abilities, Galway’s back line should be able to put a cork in Dinny.

Let’s hope the bet comes in to make up for that terrible pun.

Verdict: Galway to win & Under 2.5 Goals @ 3/1

Limerick are the textbook definition of a mid-table team this season. They’re both six points off the drop and behind the European places.

With five losses and five draws in the bag they picked up their fifth win in a 2-1 win against Bohemians midweek.

New boss Neil McDonald will no doubt be looking upwards rather than downwards but in their current spells of inconsistency, you couldn’t write them off the drop just yet.

Battling for mid-table status never sounds exciting, but is probably a realistic target for the Super Blues for their first year back in a league where a quarter of the teams will be doomed to relegation.

McDonald has already talked about strengthening his side, and will no doubt have money to spend on players.

On the other hand, Finn Harps boss Ollie Horgan must envy his position as a recent injury crisis has left him short of players and temperament as he was in the stands once again last week.

The luckless Harps have found it difficult in the face of much adversity lately and although they stopped the rot early this week, I’m starting to get the feeling they can’t survive without big players like Paddy McCourt much longer.

At the prices, I’ll take Limerick to win and keep that six point buffer between themselves and the relegation battlers.

Verdict: Limerick to win @ 21/20

Treble Returns – 17/1

Good Luck!
