Are Chelsea set to wade in on Liverpool’s Oxlade-Chamberlain bid?
Published:Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has become a summer transfer target for Chelsea, according to the latest reports.
It had been believed for the last few months than the England international was destined for a move to Liverpool.
But several sections of the press are now linking the reigning Premier League champions with an offer.
The 23-year-old enjoyed arguably his finest season yet in an Arsenal shirt, racking up 11 assists and seven goals from 45 appearances.
And despite wishing to play in central midfield, Oxlade-Chamberlain turned into a handy wing-back at the tail end of last season.
But his contract expires in 12 months’ time, and despite holding talks with Arsenal over a new deal, it’s believed that no confirmed offer has yet been made.
He’s made 194 appearances since joining the Gunners from Southampton in an £11m deal back in 2011.
Arsenal could yet cash in to potentially £30m if Chelsea and Liverpool enter a bidding war.
Both sides are returning to Champions League football next season, and Oxlade-Chamberlain’s pace, energy and tactical flexibility makes him a prime target for both clubs.
Our odds suggest Liverpool still have the upper hand, with 8/11 available on the Ox heading to Anfield.
But Chelsea have seen their odds cut massively in recent weeks, with the Blues now 4/1 second favourites from 14/1.
