Have Tottenham found their Walker replacement in Porto ace?

While plenty of speculation has surrounded the potential destination of Tottenham’s Kyle Walker, talk of who would replace the right-back has been relatively quiet.

Until now.

Several reports have emerged this week claiming Spurs have earmarked Porto’s Ricardo Pereira as the successor to Walker in North London.

Pereira – full name Ricardo Domingos Barbosa Pereira – pretty cool, no? – has shone on-loan for Ligue 1 outfit this season.

The 23-year-old has been on the Cote d’Azur for two years, and featured 24 times this term as the side launched their sternest title challenge in decades.

But it’s the two goals and eight assists during his time with Nice which shows why Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs may be keen.

Walker is widely regarded as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League, and is arguably unmatched in his ability to become an offensive asset down the flanks.

Six assists last term suggest as much.

But the Sheffield-born ace is keen to return North, and both Manchester City and Manchester United have been rumoured as potential options.

So while Spurs can call upon Kieran Trippier to fill Walker’s defensive void, it’s still not certain whether he can replicate the attacking prowess Walker brings.

Pereira is valued at just £7.65m by transfermarkt.co.uk, but it’s believed his Porto contract includes a £22m release clause.

That’s well within Tottenham’s budget, especially, if they sell Walker. A deal for the England international would easily cover any outlaw on his replacement.

Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked Pereira, but he certainly fits Pochettino’s Tottenham vision.
