Odds slashed on Premier League legend joining Aston Villa

Published:

Rewind just a few days, and Bournemouth were miles clear in the race to sign John Terry this summer. But that picture has changed, with odds of a move to Aston Villa slashed from 6/1 to just 7/2.

The 36-year-old bowed out after 18 years in the Chelsea first team, ending on a high with a fifth career Premier League winners’ medal.

But though he only made nine league appearances for the Blues last term, there’s no shortage of clubs who would relish having the former England international’s services.

Bournemouth remain market favourites at 10/11, but Eddie Howe and co. will face stiff competition from Villa boss Steve Bruce – and there are several plausible outsiders also keen.

A number of MLS clubs had been linked with the Barking native earlier in 2017, but a move stateside is now a 5/1 shot.

That’s followed in the betting by West Bromwich Albion (7/1), any Chinese Super League club (9/1) and Prem newboys Brighton & Hove Albion (10/1).

However, a reunion with former Chelsea coach Paul Clement at Swansea City has been all-but written off at odds of 16/1.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Bournemouth remain favourites, but this is far from a done deal and now it seems it could be Villa fans who are adding a five-time Prem winner to their ranks this summer.”
