All British hopes at Wimbledon now lie with Johanna Konta, after Andy Murray limped out of the famous tournament in the quarter-finals.

The world number one lost to American Sam Querrey in five sets, ending his hopes of a third Wimbledon title.

The pair had been heavily backed by patriotic punters, but Konta herself is by far the most popular name still standing at SW19.

She began the competition with more backing than Murray, and she’s second-favourite to go all the way this year in the Ladies’ tournament.

Currently 12/5, Konta had been as long as 12/1 before a ball was served this year.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “We’re breathing a huge sigh of relief right now as Murray’s exit has meant we’ve avoided record-breaking payouts on a famous British outright double.”

“But all of the attention has now turned to Konta, who – with no pressure on her shoulders – could still cost us a fortune if she achieves the unthinkable.”
