There was only going to be one winner of this week’s award. A former star of the Juventus youth team, a leading light for his national side and with an impressive 2016-17 under his belt, it just had to be Hibernian new boy Vykintas Slivka.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a pair of profitable loan spells last term, impressing for Dutch second-tier outfit FC Den Bosch, before a handful of solid displays for Serie B side Ascoli as they narrowly avoided the drop.

However, it’s the former Juve youngster’s record for national side Lithuania which really stands out.

Slivka has played in all of their last 18 internationals since making his debut in 2015, and produced a stellar turn in last October’s World Cup Qualifier against Scotland, setting up the visitors’ opener in a 1-1 draw at Hampden Park.

Meanwhile, his mazy solo goal against Slovenia a month prior showed the youngster’s tricky footwork and ability to produce a classy finish.

Having slotted in quickly at every club he’s played for, there’s little doubt the Panevezys native will add an extra dimension of class and creativity to the Hibs ranks this season.

There’s every chance we’ll see the Lithuanian make his bow at the Indodrill Stadium on Saturday, with odds of 1/5 for the Hibees to enjoy a League Cup victory over Alloa Athletic.
