Jamie Vardy to Chelsea? Our traders go 6/4 on shock move

| 22.08.2017

There’s less than a fortnight of this summer’s transfer window remaining, but it looks like Chelsea still have a lot of work to do.

And according to the latest reports in The Telegraph, the reigning Premier League champions could be making a beeline for Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.

Our traders certainly think a deal could be done, with just 6/4 on offer for the hotshot striker to move to London.

Among the expectant changes at Stamford Bridge, both Michy Batshuayi and Diego Costa are set to depart the club.

That would leave Antonio Conte very short on options up front – hence the pursuit of Vardy.

The England international will turn 31-years-old in January, but as he showed with his brace against Arsenal, remains one of the most clinical strikers in the game.

And with his lightning pace, he’ll offer the Blues an outlet which they don’t currently possess.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “This one really has come out of nowhere, but with Chelsea in desperate need of some added firepower up top, we’re taking no chances.”

Conte is unhappy with the progress his side have made in an off-season which saw them lose out on Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United.

The Blues have signed Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Antonio Rudiger, but it’s widely believed the Italian is still out for three or four signings before the window slams shut – including Vardy’s current Foxes team-mate Danny Drinkwater.

The former Fleetwood Town striker won’t be easily swayed, however.

Vardy has been courted by London’s big clubs in the past, and turned down a move to Arsenal to stay with Leicester following their Premier League title win.

But Chelsea have a history in poaching Leicester’s top men, taking N’Golo Kante to Stamford Bridge last year.

Chelsea sit 12th in the table after two games, bouncing back from a 3-2 home loss to Burnley by defeating rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Wembley on Sunday.
