Liverpool eyeing up Insigne to replace Barca-bound Coutinho

| 14.08.2017

Liverpool will reportedly make a move for Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne if Philippe Coutinho gets his desired move to Barcelona.

Jurgen Klopp is thought to be a long-time admirer of the Italian international who scored 20 goals in Serie A last season.

The 26-year-old plays a similar role to Coutinho, drifting off the flank to play anywhere across the front three positions.

A superb dribbler, who can score and create at will, he would be an ideal replacement for the Barca-bound forward.

The Brazilian star has handed in a transfer request already but the Anfield club has held firm so far despite more than one bid from the La Liga giants.

However, a move is expected to go through at some point between now and the end of the window, so Liverpool will have to move quickly to secure Insigne’s signature.

Napoli officials have already stated they do not want to sell but the riches from any prospective Coutinho sale will be difficult to turn down. A fee of around £50m would probably seal the deal.

With both sides in third round Champions League qualifying games, Insigne may wait on how the fixtures play out before deciding on a move.
