Arbroath’s Ryan McCord has won the Ladbrokes League 1 Player of the Month award for September.

The 28-year-old has been central to the Red Lichties’ recent success. He netted six goals during the month, including just his second career hat-trick – recorded away at Stranraer.

His excellent performances have helped the Angus club move into the play-off spots, with seven points and 13 goals chalked up during their four September outings.

That sets the Arbroath star well on the way to achieving his highest-ever league goals total. The current benchmark is 13, but with the former Raith Rovers man scoring freely in a more attacking role, that could soon change. He told us:

“When you’ve got guys like Danny Denholm and Bobby Linn who have that creativity you’re going to get chances.”

McCord continued: “Getting back on the penalties has been good but I just seem to be in a period now when I’m scoring all the time.”

While he’s not getting carried away with the Red Lichties’ recent success, the in-form forward is optimistic about this campaign.

He said: “This side seem to be well equipped for this league. We’ve made a good start and I just hope we can continue it.”

“We’re nearly finished the first quarter now and it will be interesting to see which teams really kick on in the second quarter.”

Arbroath look to keep up that recent momentum when they head to Stark’s Park on Saturday in search of a fourth successive away win.
