ITV Racing Tips: Bags Groove to shine in Lanzarote Hurdle
The ITV cameras are back in the gantry at Kempton and Warwick this Saturday with six live races to entertain us.
The Lanzarote Hurdle is the feature race of the day with a highly-competitive renewal in-store.
There’s also the Grade 2 Leamington Novices’ Chase and the Classic Handicap Chase from Warwick.
As ever, we’re going to delve into the races for the best bets of the day…
This year’s renewal of the Lanzarote Hurdle looks fierce with a number of horses in with a good shout.
Diese Des Bieffes and River Frost currently head the betting. It’s difficult to argue with their pedigree but it’s further down we’re going for our NAP.
Harry Fry’s Bags Groove was initially installed as one of the favourites but he’s been placed at joint-top weight.
That’s shunted the seven-year-old star down the betting. However, he’s been in superb form in recent months, winning on his last two occasions.
One of those wins was at Kempton over the same distance so we know he ticks both those boxes. Little rain is expected so that also goes in his favour.
If he stays on well, he’ll be in the mix and represents good value in the odds.
It’s off to Warwick now for the Grade 1 Leamington Novices’ Hurdle. There are only six runners here and one horse that stands out in particular.
Nigel Twiston-Davies Count Meribel is the current favourite at the head of the betting and we’re backing that assertion.
The six-year-old has also won three out of four since his seasonal reappearance, with his only loss coming in a Grade Two race at Cheltenham.
Soft ground is expected at the course and that will suit him. A drop back in trip here from 3m to 2m 5f should go in his favour, too.
Twiston-Davies has been raving about him in recent months and that’s good enough for us here.
We stay at Warwick for the Grade 3 Classic Handicap Chase over 3m 5f.
With 14 runners there are plenty of horses to choose from but it’s Cresswell Breeze that has caught our eye.
Anthony Honeyball’s star has already won over the distance this season and Sean Bowen mounts her again having ridden her to a win at Fontwell back in November.
She was a decent third in her last outing at Sandown, travelling well until being outpaced to the line after jumping the last.
We’re backing her to go a couple better here and win at biggish odds.
