Southampton v Tottenham: Spurs likely to add to Saints’ woes

Things have gone from bad to worse for Southampton this season under the stewardship of Mauricio Pellegrino.

And it’s unlikely they’ll get any respite as they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to St Mary’s on Sunday.

The Saints shared the spoils last weekend in a 2-2 draw against an out of form Watford side.

A run of ten winless Premier League games means they’ve been dragged into something of a relegation dogfight.

Spurs have hit a rich vein of form in contrast and will be looking to extend their 11-match unbeaten run in all competitions as the North Londoners continue their pursuit of a top-four finish.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men were impressive in their 4-0 defeat of Everton last weekend. And at 4/6 we fancy them to come away from the South Coast having copped all three points.

However, the more speculative of punters may fancy the 21/5 on offer about the hosts, while the draw is available at 14/5.

The two sides last met as recently as Boxing Day which saw Spurs’ come out on top with a 5-2 victory. So backing them to win on the -1 handicap at 7/4 could prove to be fruitful.

Harry Kane scored a hat-trick in that same game and he’s a 13/5 shot to score first.

However, Heung-Min Son has been in terrific goal-scoring form with two goals in his last two Premier League matches and he can prove to be a cracking value alternative at 9/2.

The last four meetings between these two have all resulted in both teams finding the net.

However, the Saints are in such poor form at present that we like the look of Tottenham to win to nil at what seems to be a fair looking price of 9/5.
