Super Sunday: Liverpool to lord it over Spurs, and a tight game at Selhurst

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur go head-to-head at Anfield in a huge top-six clash on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides will be eager for three points in what is turning out to be a classic battle for the Champions League spots.

Before that, Crystal Palace host Newcastle in a game which could have a big impact on the relegation places.

Two points separate the sides with Palace just one place ahead of Newcastle.

Both sides are in okay form over the last eight games heading into this. Newcastle have won two, lost three, and drawn three.

While Palace have won three, lost three, and drawn two. The Eagles are favourites at 21/20, with Newcastle outsiders at 14/5. The draw is 9/4.

Are the two teams as far apart as the odds suggest? We don’t think so.

Roy Hodgson’s side have won four of their 12 league games at home, while the Magpies have won three of 12 on the road.

Rafa Benitez’s side will be buoyed by their deadline day capture of Islam Slimani from Leicester City.

The North-East outfit have been painfully shy of goals all season. Slimani is the type of quality they’ve lacked.

With Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha, Palace don’t have that problem. We can see both sides finding the net in this one at 10/11.

Both coaches are excellent organisers so this could be a tactical and tight affair. The draw at 9/4 brings most appeal.

Liverpool v Tottenham

Both teams had superb midweek wins over Huddersfield Town and Manchester United, respectively. And that will mean both will have a bit of a buzz about them.

However, Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino don’t have a great record against top-six sides away from home.

The Argentine’s record is poor with just one win in 19 attempts. The North Londoners have already lost away at Manchester United, Arsenal, and Manchester City this term.

That makes the Even-Money shout on Liverpool very appealing. And a good reason for Spurs’ price of 12/5.

In addition to that, since taking over at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp has yet to lose to a Spurs’ side coached by Pochettino.

Plus Tottenham haven’t won on Merseyside since 2011, and have lost their last two visits.

All indications point to a Reds win. Spurs will be on a high after their win over Man United, though, and could find the back of the net.

Both Teams To Score is short at 1/2, but combined it with a Liverpool win and that’s nicely-priced at 12/5.
