They just met in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final, but on Thursday night Arsenal and Manchester City will clash again in the Premier League.

The Citizens comfortably ran out 3-0 winners at Wembley, heaping more misery on Arsene Wenger and the Gunners.

But things weren’t always so bad for the Frenchman, particularly in games against the City.

We’ve run through five of the more memorable meetings in recent times between these two Premier League heavyweights…

Arsenal 2-1 Man City – April 2017

Man City were again favourites to win last season’s FA Cup semi-final.

But Arsenal had other ideas, even after Sergio Aguero put Pep Guardiola’s first in front.

Nacho Monreal equalised soon after, before Alexis Sanchez bagged the winner in extra-time. Arsenal would win the cup with a 2-1 win over Chelsea, while Pep would have to wait for his first trophy as City boss.

Man City 6-3 Arsenal – December 2013

Arsenal have been defensively suspect for a few years now, and that was evident in the 6-3 thrashing at the Etihad four seasons ago.

Under Roberto Mancini, City tore the Gunners apart. Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, Fernandinho, David Silva and Yaya Toure all netted to expose Arsenal’s frailties.

It’s arguable that the Gunners still haven’t learnt their lesson.

Man City 4-2 Arsenal – September 2009

This match was notable for two reasons. Firstly, it was City’s first win over Arsenal since their takeover by the Abu Dhabi Group.

Secondly, it was the scene of that Emmanuel Adebayor celebration.

The game was finely poised at 2-1 to City when Adebayor made it 3-1, all but sealing the three points.

The Togo international promptly sprinted the length of the pitch to celebrate his strike in front of the travelling Gunners support. He was also given a three-match ban for stamping on Robin van Persie..

Man City 0-4 Arsenal – April 2001

This is what Arsenal fans pine for.

The Gunners stormed past Man City back in 2001. They were 4-0 in inside 36 minutes and had already won the reverse tie at Highbury 5-0.

Danny Tiatto’s first-half red card skewed that result, but there were no excuses for City at Maine Road.

A Freddie Ljungberg brace, plus goals from Sylvain Wiltord and Nwankwo Kanu handed Arsenal victory and reasserted the gulf between the two clubs at the time.

Man City 1-5 Arsenal – February 2003

Arsenal simply loved playing Man City back in the day. And they were at their scintillating best during their famous ‘invincibles’ campaign.

In a devastating display of football, Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires, Thierry Henry and Sol Campbell had Arsenal 4-0 inside 20 minutes

Patrick Vieira made it 5-0 in the second-half, before former Gunners Nicolas Anelka netted a late consolation. This was quite possibly Arsenal at their very best under Wenger.
