Buffon 10/1 to make surprise Liverpool move this summer

Liverpool could be about to add Gianluigi Buffon to their ranks this summer, according to our odds.

The Juventus hero has reportedly expressed his desire to play in the Premier League before he retires from football.

And our traders are going 10/1 about the Reds granting his wish for a stint in Britain.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Liverpool are in desperate need of a world class shot-stopper and while Buffon may not be the long-term solution, his arrival would certainly be a statement of intent for next season.”

Buffon joined Juventus for around £40m from Parma in 2001 – a move which remains the most expensive ever for a goalkeeper.

The 40-year-old has easily repaid that outlay however, becoming a Juve legend.

Buffon has made over 640 appearances for the Old Lady, a club-record beaten only by Alessandro Del Piero.

The Italian has won eight Serie A titles with Juventus, three Coppa Italias and five Supercoppa Italias in addition to the 2006 World Cup.
