Bayern v Real Madrid: Goals to rain in Munich?

| 24.04.2018

Bayern Munich host Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena in the first-leg of their Champions League semi-final later this evening.

The Bavarian giants are Even-Money to win, with Real at 12/5, and the draw available at 27/10.

After struggling in the early part of the season under Carlo Ancelotti, Bayern have hit serious form since his departure. Jupp Heynckes stepped into the breach and has fit like a glove once again.

Der FCB have lost just twice under the German coach since his re-appointment as manager. They haven’t made the UCL final since they won it under Heynckes back in 2013.

Real stand in the way of that. And the defending champions will be doing their utmost to retain the trophy for a record third time in a row.

Boss Zinedine Zidane has no key absences to deal with. Sergio Ramos is back after a ban. And he was badly missed in the 3-1 defeat to Juventus at the Santiago Bernabeu.

For Bayern, it’s not so good news. Arturo Vidal is out with an injury, while Manuel Neuer also misses out.

However, the last side to beat a Heynckes’ Bayern team at the Allianz Arena in European competition was actually Arsenal way back in March 2013. So Real have their work cut out to head back to Madrid with a second-leg lead.

Interestingly, both sides met at the quarter-final stage in this competition last season. It was a fascinating duel with Real luckily progressing in extra-time despite Bayern being down to 10 men for a large portion of the second-half.

Goals are surely on the menu here. The Bundesliga giants have hit 14 across their last three games. And Real have Cristiano Ronaldo in an incredible vein of form with 15 goals in just 10 UCL appearances this term.

Over 2.5 Goals is just 8/15. But a Bayern win and Over 2.5 Goals is 33/20. The German outfit to be victorious with both teams scoring is 9/4.

Despite his goalscoring heroics in recent months, Ronaldo is not the favourite to be First Goalscorer. Robert Lewandowski takes that particular honour.

The Polish goal-machine is 14/5 to hit the onion bag first. Real Madrid’s talisman is 7/2 first, and 23/20 Anytime.
