ITV Racing Tips: Amazing Red to upset the odds in Northumberland

Royal Ascot may have come and gone but the flat season keeps on going. And there’s a handful of decent renewals lined up at Newcastle and Newmarket today.

In fact, there’s six live on ITV. Ed Chamberlin and the crew will be attendance for a pair of Group 3s including the Criterion Stakes.

As usual, the Ladbrokes News crew preview the action with three of our best tips and six overall.

NAP – Amazing Red – 2:05, Newcastle

Roger Charlton’s Withhold is strong favourite for this 2m 1/2f handicap. And there’s no doubt he’s a high-class operator, having won the Cesarewitch back in October.

But this is his seasonal reappearance and has been raised 12lbs, too. So we’re happy to swerve him in this case.

And that leaves Ed Dunlop’s Amazing Red as our best bet of the day. When it comes to stayers, Dunlop is an incredible trainer and his four-year-old charge here looks the pick of the bunch.

He hosed up in a handicap at Newmarket last time out and Dunlop reckons there’s plenty more in the tank.

NB – Dutch Connection – 1:45, Newmarket

Charles Hills’ Dutch Connection went off favourite last time out at Haydock but could only come in fourth that day.

The six-year-old ran particularly flat. But Hills reckons his previous impressive run in the Lockinge at Newbury took a lot out of him.

But there’s no doubt he’s a good horse and arguably the most talented in the field. He’ll enjoy the ground and the trip. And if he runs anywhere near his best, there’s no doubt he’ll have the beating of the rest.

Lively Longshot – Cool Sky – 1:30, Newcastle

Ian Williams is a renowned dual-purpose trainer. And although his charge, Cool Sky, hasn’t raced on all-weather for four years, he’s got a chance on the tapeta.

The nine-year-old was a 25/1 winner at Glorious Goodwood last summer on his previous race on the flat. And that immediately piques the interest here.

The son of Millkom has raced superbly over hurdles. And his switch back to the flat here could be very interesting. He’s won 3 of his 11 starts on the all-weather surface and could be well in the mix here at plump odds.

ITV Racing Tips:

12:20 Newcastle – Ekhtiyaar

12:55 Newcastle – Yafta

1:10 Newmarket – No Lippy

1:30 Newcastle – Cool Sky (Lively Longshot)

1:45 Newmarket – Dutch Connection (NB)

2:05 Newcastle – Amazing Red (NAP)
