Weekend Sports Tips: Germany, Warrington & French Open picks

| 01.06.2018

There’s a feast of top sport ahead this weekend, with everything from international football to French Open action on the cards.

In Paris, Simona Halep continues her bid for Roland Garros glory. Meanwhile, World Cup hopefuls Germany and Brazil face intriguing friendly clashes. And there’s even some top Rugby League action in the mix!

So, without further ado – here are our top tips…

Germany to beat Austria @ 1/2

Saturday sees Die Mannschaft ramp up their World Cup preparations with a short hop over the border to face Austria.

It’s a fixture Germany have dominated throughout history – winning each of the last nine meetings, dating back to 1994.

Austria finished a lowly fourth in their WC qualification group, and should be easy pickings for Joachim Low’s men – who qualified for Russia with a 100% win ratio.

Correct Score: Simona Halep 2-0 Andrea Petkovic @ 1/4

The world number one is eyeing up a first French Open title after a losing final appearance last year. Halep breezed past Taylor Townsend with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the second round – and more of the same looks likely against Petkovic.

The Romanian ace has dominated the pair’s head-to-head meetings, winning each of the last seven clashes. As for Petkovic, she’s not made it past this stage of a Grand Slam since 2014.

Brazil to beat Croatia @ 4/9

Anfield has seen its fair share of fantastic attacking football in recent times, and it’s a fitting location for Tite’s swashbuckling Brazil side to face Croatia.

The former won the CONMEBOL qualification section by a huge 10 points. Selecao scored 41 goals and kept nine clean sheets in their 18 games.

Opponents Croatia are a decent side, but have won just one of their last three matches, losing 2-0 to Peru in March.

Warrington Wolves -4 (v. Wigan Warriors) @ 11/8

Warrington are eyeing up a 10th win in 11 outings, as they host Shaun Wane’s Warriors in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

The Wire have tended to be dominant when they’ve won. Each of their last nine victories have come by a margin of 10 or more points.

While that winning margin could be too much to ask against a good Wigan side, Warrington could well grab victory with a bit of room to spare.

Karolina Pliskova to beat Maria Sharapova @ 10/11

World number six Pliskova reached the French Open semi-finals in 2017, and should prove too strong for Sharapova at Roland Garros in this year’s push.

Sharapova hasn’t come close to her former heights since returning to the sport, and only just squeezed past world number 448 Richel Hogenkamp in the first round at Roland Garros. This could be a very one-sided contest.
