Sheffield United v Swansea tips: Blades to snip Swans?

| 04.08.2018

Seven years ago Swansea City ended their Championship campaign with a 4-0 mauling over Saturday’s hosts, writes Paul Ready.

Swansea went on to win the play-offs, with Sheffield dropping into League One.

Fortunes may have changed, but both teams find themselves back in the Championship. And the Blades now have the perfect opportunity for revenge with an opening day win.

With a host of players leading the Swansea exodus this summer Graham Potter’s first job in England may not be the glamour role he was looking for. But it would be a serious achievement if he were to guide the Swans back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Match Odds

The last time Swansea tasted league victory came on 3rd March. And with Alfie Mawson the latest player to leave the Liberty Stadium, it should come as no surprise that Sheffield United are 13/10 favourites to win this opener.

If you fancy Swansea to adapt to life in the Championship with a victory they can be backed at 11/5, with the draw at 21/10.

Often opening games can be cagey affairs, with victory the main priority. Either side would be happy to settle on a 1-0 win. Sheffield sits at 6/1 for the 1-0 with Swansea 15/2, with both teams not to score at 20/23.

Or perhaps it could be a slow burner with 0-0 currently being priced at 15/2.

Goalscorer Odds

Billy Sharp has been banging in the pre-season goals for fun, with 4 goals to his name. He looks to be Sheffield’s main threat going into the season.

The 32-year-old is 4/1 to score first, and 13/8 to score at Anytime.

With Sam Clucas, Leroy Fer, and Wilfried Bony all out with injuries, Jordan Ayew remains Swansea’s biggest threat and is 5/1 to score first.
