Tom Hiddleston’s Bond odds halved to 8/1; Idris Elba drifting out

Tom Hiddleston

There’s been a shift in the market for the next James Bond. And it’s largely down to Tom Hiddleston.

The Thor star has seen his odds slashed in half from 16/1 into just 8/1. That means he’s now up to joint-fourth in the betting.

Danny Boyle had been set to direct Bond 25, but he’s now stepped down from the project. And our traders reckon that’s hampered Idris Elba’s chances of becoming 007. He’s drifted out to 6/5 (from 10/11).

However, Elba is still the firm favourite. He’s followed by Tom Hardy (4/1) and James Norton (11/2).

In the director market, Boyle’s departure has seen Christopher Nolan become the 3/1 favourite.

He’s followed by Starred Up director David Mackenzie at 4/1 and Yann Demange at 6/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Idris Elba’s chances of playing Bond look to have come and gone; he may still be favourite but he’s on the drift, and punters are now turning their attention to Tom Hiddleston.”
