The 2018 US Open hits the quarter-finals stages today in both the men’s and women’s draw at Flushing Meadows.

A number of big names have exited the tournament already. But there’s still a nice dash of world-class match-ups to enjoy.

We preview each match and provide tips for each of the day’s games.

Juan Martin del Potro (-4.5 games) to beat John Isner – 5/6

Juan Martin del Potro has been in tremendous form all season. And the Argentine number one has brought that into this tournament.

Del Potro is the only men’s player yet to drop a set at Flushing Meadows this year. He’s pretty much strolled through the last 10 days and should still be reasonably fresh.

Isner is a big server and on home soil. So he’ll be dangerous. However, he’s played a lot of tennis over the course of the competition and could be tired.

Del Potro is fresher, and in better form. The draw has opened up nicely for him, too. He’ll look to get this done quickly.

Sloane Stephens (-3.5 games) to beat Anastasija Sevastova – 8/13

Stephens and Sevastova are no strangers to each other having faced off here in last year’s quarter-finals.

Stephens was the victor in that clash. And things could go a very similar way here. The American has been in relatively good form in New York. And she’ll be determined to defend her title.

Sevastova has never made it past this stage in a Slam. And it could be argued this is her ceiling at the elite level. Stephens should have plenty in the tank to get over the line and beat the handicap.

Rafa Nadal v Dominic Thiem (Over 38.5 games) – 5/6

Arguably the most intriguing battle of the men’s quarters, Rafa Nadal has his work cut out against Dominic Thiem.

The two players have developed a bit of a rivalry in recent seasons, particularly over clay. But this will be the first time the pair have met on a hard court.

Nadal has an excellent record at Flushing Meadows, particularly in last-eight matches. But this will be Thiem’s first quarter-final outside of the French Open.

He’s in terrific form, however, and could push Nadal all the way. It’s possible we can expect a quite long encounter tonight.

Serena Williams (-5.5 games) to beat Karolina Pliskova – 13/8

Serena Williams is bidding to become the oldest women’s US Open champion. And it’s Karolina Pliskova who’ll be looking to stop her early.

However, the signs are there that Williams will have little trouble bypassing the Czech Republic ace. Williams’ has dropped just one set in the tournament so far and destroyed her sister Venus in straight sets.

She has also made the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows in her previous 10 attempts. However, Pliskova has yet to drop a set in the competition and won’t be too easily brushed aside.

But Williams at her best is undeniably the best women’s player ever and she’s slowly but surely getting back to that sort of form.
