Irish public backing McGregor to end Khabib’s undefeated streak
With Conor McGregor set to step back into the Octagon against Khabib Nurmagomedov this weekend, we’ve polled the Irish public on whether they’re backing the Notorious.
McGregor’s a slight underdog at 5/4, but 51% think he’ll inflict the first defeat of Khabib’s career to regain the UFC Lightweight Championship.
He’s won 18 of his 24 professional fights by knockout – 32% think he’ll make it 19 at the T-Mobile Arena.
But Mystic Mac is far from universally popular – only 35% of those polled called themselves McGregor fans.
His controversial behaviour doesn’t seem to be helping his popularity either. When asked if the 30-year-old was a good role model, 39% strongly disagreed. Another 20% somewhat disagreed, with just 21% either strongly or somewhat agreeing.
Nicola McGeady from Ladbrokes says: “The findings have shown McGregor is like Marmite here in Ireland. That said, patriotism always prevails, and although 65 per cent say they aren’t a fan, they still want to see their fellow countryman beat Khabib this weekend.”
