Odds slashed on Muntahaa for Melbourne Cup after run of bets

Muntahaa

There’s been a big mover in the betting for the Melbourne Cup, with punters piling into Muntahaa.

John Gosden’s Ebor winner has been the most backed selection with our British and Irish customers. And that’s seen the five-year-old cut from 12/1 to 9/1 for Melbourne glory.

Yucatan remains the favourite, but has now drifted out to odds of 11/2. Meanwhile, Cross Counter and Magic Circle are available at 7/1 apiece.

Now following Muntahaa in the betting are 10/1 shot Best Solution, and a trio of Marmelo, Thecliffsofmoher and Avilius – all at 12s.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “We are looking to take on Yucatan given his wide draw and although Cross Counter’s draw isn’t ideal, there seems to be some momentum for him.

She added: “Magic Circle has been popular in the run up to the race, but in the last 24 hours, it’s all about Muntahaa. Traditionally Ebor winners have a good record in this race and with Jim Crowley hitting the ground running with two winners from three already down under, punters are latching on to him.”
