ITV Racing Tips: Fab Frodon to land second Caspian Caviar Gold Cup?

The Caspian Caviar Gold Cup and the International Hurdle are the headline renewals on the second day of the December Meeting at Cheltenham.

Star mare Laurina may have been scratched from the latter contest by Willie Mullins, but there are still plenty of stars on show on what should be a cracking afternoon on ITV4.

We’ve previewed all of the televised action from Cheltenham and Doncaster in our ITV Racing Tips.

NAP – Frodon – 2:30 Cheltenham

Bryony Frost loves a Saturday winner. So it makes sense to plump for her again aboard Frodon as the pair reunite after last month’s narrow second to Baron Alco in the November Gold Cup.

The six-year-old toughed it out off top weight to hit the frame at Prestbury Park that day. That gives us all the confidence in the world that he can do the same again here.

Even more encouraging is the raider’s record around Cheltenham. Paul Nicholls’ charge has won twice as a chaser round the track, including in 2016 to win this very race over 2m 5f.

NB – Doux Pretender – 1:55 Cheltenham

Doux Pretender is definitely one to watch for Nicky Henderson. The five-year-old shaped well to win on reappearance at Ascot in November and can follow up again here.

The son of Great Pretender looks the type to relish a big staying challenge like this, and with jockey and trainer bang in-form over, he’s the obvious pick.

Don’t just take our word for it, though. See what rider Noel Fehily has to say about the raider’s step up to Grade 2 company for the first time.

Lively Longshot – Vision Des Flos – 3:40 Cheltenham

After taking a chance on Sizing Granite yesterday, we’re keeping faith with the Colin Tizzard yard once again here and going with Vision Des Flos.

The five-year-old was the best of the rest behind Buveur D’Air and Samcro in a Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle last month which also included Summerville Boy.

That’s a pretty decent form line – especially with Tom George’s raider reopposing this afternoon.

Our selection requires a career-best effort to take the International Hurdle. But after showing smart form as a novice hurdler, we reckon he should be capable of hitting the frame.
